Assigning keywords with the help of a (poly)hierarchically structured
thesaurus includes a series of advantages compared to using free keywo
rds. A disadvantage of a thesaurus, however, is the effort of its desi
gn, construction and maintenance demand. A standard thesaurus, which i
s modified by the user to fulfill his own requirements, can be a way t
o profit from the advantages of a thesaurus without making the full ef
fort of thesaurus construction. Design, construction and contents of a
standard thesaurus in the field of organic farming are presented here
. The comparison with the widely used keyword list AGROVOC demonstrate
s the standard thesaurus' superiority in relation to assigning correct
keywords.
