N. Mencke et Hd. Hamel, FIELD TRIAL ON FLUMETHRIN (BAYTICOL(R) PO UR-ON) TREATMENT OF MANGE MITE (PSOROPTES-OVIS) INFESTED FEED-LOT BULLS, Praktische Tierarzt, 76(1), 1995, pp. 5-8
In this field trial the results of a Flumethrin (Bayticol(R) pour-on)
treatment on Charolais feed lot bulls with a severe clinical Psoroptes
ovis mange mite infestation is reported. The synthetic Pyrethroid Flu
methrin was applied as pour on at 2.0 mg/kg b. w. (equals 20 ml of the
ready to use solution per 100 kg body weight) along the dorsal line f
rom neck to tail. The onset of the efficacy is shortly after treatment
and was seen by increased activity of the heavily infested cattle tha
t lasted for about 30 minutes. On day 11 after treatment 48 of the 49
cattle were free of mites, on day 23 after the second treatment all bu
lls were free of mange mites. Under severe mange mite infestations, as
reported in this case, a second treatment 10 to 14 days later is high
ly recommended.
