Abstract
The average sheet of Canadian newsprint loses about 2% of brightness a fter storage for two years in an office filing cabinet. Representative brightness losses were determined using monthly samples of Canadian n ewsprint measured as much as five years after manufacture. The rate of darkening varied from a minimum of 0.4 brightness units per year for some mills to a maximum of 1.4 brightness units per year for other mil ls.
