Generation of intense picosecond pulses in the 580-610 nm region, from
a frequency upconversion pure SiO2-core fiber ring oscillator, is des
cribed. The single-mode fiber ring oscillator was synchronously pumped
by a Q-switched and mode-locked Nd:YAG laser operated at 1.319 mu m.
The oscillator produced pulses at 100 MHz with less than 90 ps duratio
n and peak powers as high as 120 W. The pulses resided in 300 ns durat
ion Gaussian shaped Q-switch bursts at repetition rates of up to 1.5 k
Hz.
