We consider combining frequency down-conversion with frequency up-conv
ersion in the same cavity as a means of producing tunable up-converted
radiation. Specifically, we consider a singly resonant optical parame
tric oscillator (OPO) containing an intracavity second-harmonic genera
tor (SHG) for doubling the OPO signal frequency. We determine the stab
le steady states that completely deplete the incident pump radiation.
Phase mismatch in the SHG process is considered. An example of convert
ing 532 nm radiation to 365 nm radiation is discussed; power conversio
n efficiency as high as 63% is predicted.
