Abstract
A case of first episode, non-primary genital herpes simplex virus type -2 (HSV-2) infection occurring at the time of onset of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is described. The possibilities that HSV-2 infecti on either triggered the SLE episode or that clinically apparent genita l HSV resulted from SLE associated immune dysfunction are discussed.
