We have clearly observed classical edge magnetoplasmons (classical EMP
s) in a two-dimensional hole system (2DHS) for the first time. The cla
ssical EMPs are excited in a GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure by radio-freq
uency electric field excitation (less-than-or-equal-to 1 GHz) in a hig
h magnetic field B (less-than-or-equal-to 5 T). The resonant frequency
changes in almost inverse proportion to B, and its response is simila
r to that of EMPs in a two-dimensional electron system (2DES). However
, the EMP excitation mechanism in the 2DHS seems to differ from that i
n the 2DES.
