Df. Anagnostopoulos, K-FLUORESCENCE YIELDS AND LEVEL WIDTHS, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN L-SPECTATOR HOLE, Journal of physics. B, Atomic molecular and optical physics, 28(1), 1995, pp. 47-53
The K partial and total fluorescence yields of lanthanum, in the prese
nce of a spectator hole in one of the three L subshells, are discussed
. It is shown that the K partial fluorescence yield can change conside
rably in the presence of the L spectator hole. Dirac-Fock wavefunction
s have been used for the calculation of the dipole radiative transitio
n rates. A statistical weighting semi-empirical formula for the calcul
ation of the relative K radiative rates is proposed, which permits the
evaluation of the relative K radiative rates in the presence of spect
ator hole(s), for middle and high Z elements, with high accuracy. Fina
lly the lifetime of a K hole in a KL hole atomic configuration is calc
ulated and is compared with the lifetime of a K hole in a single K hol
e atomic configuration. It is shown that the lifetime of the K hole is
affected by the presence of the L hole and it depends on the particul
ar L subshell.
