The new line-of-sight gravity data set from cycle 4 of the Magellan sp
acecraft around Venus is analyzed, and its usefulness for geodetic and
geophysical purposes is assessed. These data contain large low-freque
ncy biases, which are estimated by comparison with synthetic data comp
uted from a harmonic model of the gravity field. With the corrected da
ta set, the noncentral part of the radial gravity field at the surface
over Eistla Regio and the west part of Aphrodite Terra, with a 1 degr
ees x 1 degrees resolution, is calculated. (C) 1994 Academic Press, In
