Abstract
Wirrzopf organoid gall tissue of Salix alba was analysed by in vitro c ulture. The tissue maintained its abnormal growth pattern for more tha n 2.5 years on a modified ACM medium (Ahuja, 1983) with 1.11 mu M BAP. On hormone-free medium this growth pattern was also maintained, altho ugh the growth rate was reduced. Formation of thin, threadlike shoots was induced by the addition of GA(3) (2.9-57.8 mu M) and such shoots w ere rooted by the addition of IBA (50 mu M). Rooted shoots died sooner or later, which corresponds to the limited life expectancy of wirrzop f galls in planta.
