We describe a patient with chronic granulomatous disease who presented
with erythematous papular skin lesions on the chest, back, and arm, E
xamination of biopsy specimens from the lesions on the arm and back sh
owed suppurative granulomata in association with acute and chronic inf
lammation, Histopathologic examination of a specimen from the lesion o
n the arm revealed fungal elements, and cultures yielded Microascus ci
nereus. The patient was treated with 2.5 g of intravenous amphotericin
B, and the lesions resolved. We report what is, to our knowledge, the
first case of invasive disease due solely to M, cinereus.
