Ethnic minorities of color are disadvantaged on most indicators of hea
lth and wellness, yet, health services have not been adequately respon
sive to this group's needs. This paper explores the improvement of hea
lth services for this population by discussing common criteria for the
assessment of responsiveness: availability, accessibility, and accept
ability. Illustrative examples drawn from different ethnic minority gr
oups will be utilized in the discussion of assessment criteria and ide
as for cultural responsiveness highlighted.
