2-carboxyethylphosphonic acid reacts with bismuth nitrate in water and
organic solvents to give Bi(O3PC2H4CO2).H2O 1, and HBi(O3PC2H4CO2H)2
2. Compound 1 crystallizes in the space group P2(1)/c, a = 8.820(3) an
gstrom, b = 11.830(3) angstrom, c = 7.039(1) angstrom, beta = 95.28(2)
-degrees, and has an original layered structure, pillared by the PO3 a
nd CO2 moieties.
