A new procedure for the design of decentralized power system stabilize
rs (PSS) in multimachine power systems (MMPS) is presented in this pap
er. In the proposed approach, the generators most effective for stabil
izer applications are first identified using participation factors and
mode controllability matrix. The method determines the parameters of
stabilizers by assigning mechanical modes at desired locations. The al
gorithm uses transfer function matrix between inputs and outputs, to a
ssign the mechanical modes.
