W. Kriesel et al., THE POTENTIAL FOR BENEFICIAL REUSE OF SEWAGE-SLUDGE AND COAL COMBUSTION BY-PRODUCTS, Journal of environmental management, 42(4), 1994, pp. 299-315
Growth in population and industrial production results in increased pr
oduction of municipal and industrial wastes. Two waste products are co
nsidered here, coal combustion by-products and sewage sludge. Combinat
ions of these two waste products have the potential to serve as fertil
izer replacements or soil amendments in a wide variety of applications
. The potential for utilizing these waste products as soil amendments
and fertilizers for agricultural production is considered here. We fin
d that, in general, using coal combustion by-products mixed with sewag
e sludge can save farmers money by replacing commercial fertilizers.
