Noble metals, sulfur and copper provide a means of distinguishing betw
een layered gabbros and intrusive ultramafic rocks making up the pluto
nic sequence of the ophiolite of Oman. The layered gabbros have mantle
-normalized patterns with a positive slope between lr and Pd, and are
very poor in noble metals relative to S and Cu (S/Pd(MN) and Cu/Pd(MN)
> 1). The ultramafic intrusions, very poor in S and Cu, have flat to
arch-shaped normalized patterns (Cu/Pd(MN) = 0.1-0.02) without signifi
cant fractionation from Ru to Au.
