Thermobarometrical study of the metamorphic contact aureole of three H
igh Himalayan leucogranites emphasizes the importance of magma rheolog
y during pluton emplacement. In fact, the depth of emplacement at 12 /- 2 km seems to be controlled by an important increase of the magma v
iscosity during the crossing of the hydrated solidus at this depth. Th
e North Himalayan Normal Fault probably controls the pressure drop rec
orded by the magma during its ascent and emplacement.
