Abstract
The way of obtaining the Schrodinger equation for a quantum particle i n an electromagnetic field is revisited, showing that very few physica l assumptions are required. In fact, after having introduced the gener al formalism of non-relativistic quantum mechanics, it is shown that t he structure of the Schrodinger equation for a spinless particle is ob tained merely by requiring continuity of space and time, and covarianc e with respect to Galilean transformations. Both the Correspondence an d Uncertainty principles then become <<theorems>>.
