S. Bobbio et G. Marrucci, ON THE MINIMUM SET OF PHYSICAL ASSUMPTIONS LEADING TO THE SCHRODINGER-EQUATION, Nuovo cimento della Società Italiana di Fisica. A. Nuclei, particles and fields, 109(11), 1996, pp. 1567-1580
The way of obtaining the Schrodinger equation for a quantum particle i
n an electromagnetic field is revisited, showing that very few physica
l assumptions are required. In fact, after having introduced the gener
al formalism of non-relativistic quantum mechanics, it is shown that t
he structure of the Schrodinger equation for a spinless particle is ob
tained merely by requiring continuity of space and time, and covarianc
e with respect to Galilean transformations. Both the Correspondence an
d Uncertainty principles then become <<theorems>>.
