The Michael-type reaction of copper-catalyzed trialkylaluminium reagen
ts with alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds is a useful and simp
le procedure for the transfer of hydrocarbon substituents. The scope o
f this process and the effect of chlorotrimethylsilane as additive wer
e investigated. Preparatively useful results were generally obtained f
or enones even with higher organoaluminium reagents, whereas the react
ion with alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes was limited to the use of tr
imethylaluminium.
