Abstract
A strong and positive association was observed between field emergence and standard germination, vigour index-1 and seedling emergence index whereas 100 seed weight and electrical conductivity were found to be negatively correlated. These tests can be used as prediction criteria of field emergence potential and seed vigour in pigeonpea (Cajanus caj an L. Millsp.). Applicability of genetic parameters such as heritabili ty and genetic advance of certain vigour tests in finding a reliable p redictor of seedling emergence in the field is also suggested.
