Abstract
The palladium(II) catalyzed oxidation of allyl alcohol by manganese(II I) in acid medium is assumed to go via substrate-catalyst complex form ation followed by the interaction of oxidant and complex in the rate-d etermining step. The rates exhibit fractional order in allyl alcohol a nd first order each in [Mn(III)] and [W(II)]. The reaction constants i nvolved in the mechanism are determined.
