A program for investigating recognizable variations in soil-gas radon
content associated with earthquake activity, is presently being carrie
d out by the Radiation Protection and Safety Centre in Algeria. A netw
ork of radon measuring stations has been implanted along seismic fault
s in northern Algeria. A 4 year span of monthly readings of radon conc
entrations using solid state nuclear track detectors has been accumula
ted. The field results obtained in terms of temporal variations of rad
on concentrations have been compared with the meteorological and seism
ic data of the region.
