Consistent physico-mathematical models of the kinetics of supercooling
of a metallic melt in the zone of contact with mold wall and of the g
rowth of crystallites along this wall perpendicular to the main heat f
low are developed. Methods are proposed for determining the kinetic pa
rameters of these models. The results can be of use in mathematical si
mulation and control of the macrostructure of castings for enhancing t
heir quality.
