Be. Long et al., DIFFERENCES IN STUDENT-DEVELOPMENT REFLECTED BY THE CAREER DECISIONS OF COLLEGE SENIORS, Journal of college student development, 36(1), 1995, pp. 47-52
In this study developmental behaviors in college seniors who had made
a career choice were examined and compared with those of college senio
rs who were undecided about their careers. The results suggest that st
udent developmental tasks (i.e., developing a sense of purpose, being
an active and disciplined learner, having a vocational identity, and b
eing able to incorporate occupational information) are related to care
er decisions. Career decisions were not related to psychological distr
ess symptoms or to the development of interpersonal relationships. Int
erventions based on these results are suggested.
