T. Itatani et al., ELECTROOPTIC VECTOR SAMPLING - MEASUREMENT OF VECTOR COMPONENTS OF ELECTRIC-FIELD BY THE POLARIZATION CONTROL OF PROBE LIGHT, IEICE transactions on electronics, E78C(1), 1995, pp. 73-80
We measured the longitudinal electric field of the electrical pulses w
ith a rise time less than 1 ps on a coplanar transmission line by elec
trooptic sampling. The longitudinal component is a sharp pulse and is
only observed at the wavefront. The transverse component has no oversh
oot or undershoot. The mixing of longitudinal component to the transve
rse component is discussed for C3v crystals whose electrooptic coeffic
ient is large. We developed the method to estimate the longitudinal an
d the transverse component of the electric field by the polarization c
ontrol of a probe light without changing the probe configuration which
affects sensitivity severely. The waveform and the rise time of the t
ransverse electric field were estimated, for the first time, by subtra
cting the influence of the longitudinal component.
