Simultaneous asynchronous mode locking of two wavelengths in a Nd3+-do
ped fiber laser is reported. The laser operates simultaneously at wave
lengths of 1.060 and 1.100 mum, where carrier-type passive mode lockin
g is employed for the shorter wavelength and Kerr-type passive mode lo
cking is used for the longer wavelength. The difference between the tw
o repetition rates may be varied over a range from several megahertz t
o 500 Hz, limited by the onset of pulse interactions at small differen
ce frequencies.
