Abstract
The reaction of allylmanganese(II) reagents with aldehydes gives alcoh ols with high regioselectivity. The allylmanganese(II) reagents are pr epared by transmetallation between manganese(II) chloride and allyllit hium compounds which are generated from allyl phenyl sulfides by reduc tive lithiation.
