Abstract
We describe a technique which allows perfusion of an isolated, ventila ted rat lung with an extracorporeal veno-venous circuit from a support animal. This model provides stable and reliable function of the isola ted lung for up to 3 h, thus overcoming some of the disadvantages of p revious models. It may prove a potentially useful model for assessing ischaemic lung injury.
