This study investigated the effects of age and gender on the frequency
of things, places, and persons as they become actual manifestations o
f the self. The subjects were 30 girls and 30 boys aged 10, 12, and 14
years. They were given a camera to take photographs of persons, thing
s, and places which they considered to be a part of their self-concept
. Results show that girls photographed other people more frequently th
an did boys, whereas boys made more photographs with places than did g
irls. With higher age the boys' photographs showed fewer things, where
as the girls' photographed more things with higher age.
