B. Carricaburu et al., ANGLE-RESOLVED PHOTOEMISSION INVESTIGATION OF THE VALENCE BANDS OF RUCL3, Physica status solidi. b, Basic research, 187(1), 1995, pp. 141-148
The electronic structure of the layered compound RuCl3 is studied by m
eans of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and angle-resolved ultraviole
t photoelectron spectroscopy. The energy distribution curves are measu
red along different azimuthal directions Gamma M, Gamma M', and Gamma
K in the Brillouin zone. The experimental valence bands of RuCl3 consi
sting of an uppermost non-dispersive band of d symmetry at about 2 eV
above the top of the valence p band, and two dispersive bands of p sym
metry are studied by application of the E(k parallel to) method. The n
ature of the valence bands of RuCl3 are discussed in relation to the e
lectronic structure of the metal RuO2 owing to their similar X-ray pho
toelectron spectra.
