The technique of microdialysis has been applied extensively in neurobi
ological research. However, its potential as a tool for research in ti
ssues other than the brain has not been fully explored. This article d
escribes some of the situations in which microdialysis has been employ
ed for studies in reproductive physiology and behavior. The examples h
ave been chosen to give the reader a sense of the potential of the tec
hnique, its strengths, and some of its limitations.
