Research work in Hungary in the field of molecular structure determina
tion by instrumental methods and techniques is reviewed in this paper.
The development and most outstanding results in diffraction methods (
X-ray, GED), Mossbauer, mass, optical (XP, UP, UV, CD, IR, Raman) and
radio spectroscopy (ESR, NMR) are briefly outlined. A survey of the mo
st important research groups and subjects are also given. In spite of
a permanent backwardness in the instrumentation and almost complete ab
sence of available state-of-the-art instruments the contribution of Hu
ngarian scientists to the international progress in molecular structur
e determination is remarkable in all branches of spectroscopy. The spe
ctroscopic results promoted significantly the efficiency of Hungarian
chemists working in all other areas of chemistry.
