Abstract
It is illustrated by examples that future technology cannot be imagine d without the development of the research on catalysts and catalytic p rocesses. In addition to the relatively simple catalysts used in the p ast decades (e.g. Pt/Al2O3, Ni/Al2O3 reformation catalysts) new cataly sts appear which are more complex both in respect of composition and m orphology, and the development of special catalyst requires the use of modern structural and surface chemistry. Modern technologies are expe cted not only to use environment- and energy-friendly catalytic proces ses, but also to solve problems connected with the changing raw materi als of chemical industry. The future development of catalysis will be promoted by the need for energy- and environment-friendly chemical pro cesses.
