Ba4-2xAg2+xYxNb10O30 (where x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5) ceramic composi
tions have been prepared and the effect of yttrium on dielectric and p
iezoelectric properties of barium silver niobate (BAN) studied. The pr
epared materials are characterized by using SEM and XRD techniques. Di
electric measurement indicated a decrease in curie temperature of yttr
ium substituted BAN. Electromechanical coupling coefficient has been f
ound to be more than 0.5. Yttrium substitution in BAN inhibited the gr
ain growth.
