A simple, precise and rapid high performance thin layer chromatographi
c method is developed using chloroform methanol (9:1) as mobile phase
for simultaneous determination of Theophylline and Etofylline in pharm
aceutical dosages. Paracetamol was used as an internal standard. The m
ethod is linear in the concentration range of 20 - 80 ng for Theophyll
ine and 60-240 ng for Etofylline. The Rf values are 0.58, 0.48, 0.41 f
or Theophylline, Etofylline and Paracetamol respectively. Minimum dete
ction limit obtained was 10 ng for both Theophylline and Etofylline. R
esults obtained are statistically comparable.
