This study examined biographical and personality predictors of 14 perc
eived climate factors in two different British organisations form the
public and private sectors. Eight biographical variables (sex, age, sa
lary, status in the organization, length of service, number of promoti
ons, number of organizations worked for, grade) and work-locus of cont
rol were correlated with fourteen internally reliable perceived climat
e dimensions. The nine biographical/personality factors were regressed
onto each of the climate factors in each of the two organizations. Wo
rk locus of control was a significant predictor of nearly all climate
dimensions in the public organization accounting for an much as 30% of
the variance, while salary was a more powerful predictor in the priva
te company. These results were discussed in terms of the literature on
corporate climate.
