The stability and electronic properties of composite BxCyNz nanotube h
eterojunctions were studied using both ab initio and semi-empirical ap
proaches. C/BN and BC2N/BN superlattices: or isolated junctions were i
nvestigated as specific examples of the wide variety of electronic dev
ices that can be realized using such nanotubes. The characteristics of
these junctions are predicted to be largely independent of the radius
, helicity, multiplicity, or degree of perfection of the constituting
nanotubes. (C) 1997 American Institute of Physics.
