Abstract
A 2D spatial model for a DFB laser with lateral spatially periodic pum p is proposed. On the basis of this model the spatial-time structure o f the DFB laser generation kinetics is analyzed numerically. The trans verse pattern of a DFB laser output experimentally observed by Zaporoz hchenko et al. (Sov. J. Quantum Electron. (USA) 19 (1989) 1179) and Sz atmari and Racs (Appl. Phys. B 43 (1987) 93) in the far-field zone is interpreted based on the 2D spatial model as a result of interference of radiation from different depths or heights at the laser end (extend ed coherent source).
