Abstract
Transient refractive index changes induced by a pump pulse are probed in the temporal domain with another pulse at a different wavelength. T he phase modulation experienced by the probe beam is analysed by the m easurement of its wavefront deformation in the far field, using spatia l filters of various shapes. The technique is applied to the determina tion of low-frequency polar and non-polar phonons in crystals.
