We present a simple procedure for removing the spatial envelop from th
e joint power spectrum in a joint transform correlator. By using this
procedure, an improvement in recognition capability is obtained. The m
ain advantages of removing the spatial-envelop are the absence of redu
ndant peaks, which occur when the joint power spectrum is binarized, a
nd the simplicity of its implementation in comparison with spatial fil
tering methods. Simulation and experimental results are provided.
