Nv. Sheldeshov et al., WATER DISSOCIATION RATE AT CATION-EXCHANGE MEMBRANE - INFLUENCE OF INSOLUBLE METAL-HYDROXIDES, Russian journal of electrochemistry, 30(12), 1994, pp. 1333-1336
The influence of residues of Cu(OH)(2), Fe(OH)(3), Co(OH)(2), and Ni(O
H)(2) insoluble hydroxides on the rate of water dissociation at the MK
-40 sulfoacid membrane was investigated. The dissociation rate was jud
ged by transport numbers of hydrogen and hydroxyl ions transferred thr
ough the membrane. Transport numbers for salt ions and water dissociat
ion products transferred through the MK-40 membrane, on whose surface
hydroxide residues were deposited, were measured. The possibility of c
atalytic participation of metal hydroxides in the reaction of water di
ssociation at the ion-exchange membrane-electrolyte solution interface
was shown.
