Abstract
Fine beta-powder with an average particle size of 0.28 mu m was prepar ed by grinding and centrifugal sedimentation of submicrometer beta-pow der. Fine- and uniform-grained ceramics mere fabricated from the powde r by hot pressing. The average grain size of the ceramic was 0.21 mu m . It was shown that this kind of microstructure was desirable for the matrix of in situ composite. It was also shown that the ceramics could be superplastically deformed at a temperature as low as 1500 degrees C.
