Abstract
The results obtained from the sintering of Al2O3-50TiC (in weight perc ent) composite in the temperature range from 1650 degrees to 1800 degr ees C with addition of Y2O3 are presented. Densification is accelerate d by the formation of liquid at temperatures above 1750 degrees C, and 99% of theoretical density can be achieved by vacuum sintering at 180 0 degrees C for 15 min. The liquid presented at the sintering temperat ure is crystallized to YAG (Y3Al5O12) during cooling.
