Abstract
Stewartan is a capsular polysaccharide produced by Erwinia stewartii, the causative agent of Stewart's wilt of maize. The structure of stewa rtan is shown, by a combination of methylation analysis, Li/ethylenedi amine degradation, ID and 2D NMR spectroscopy, partial acid hydrolysis and isolation of oligosaccharides, Smith degradation, MALDI-TOFMS ana lysis and exoglycosidase digestion, to have the following repeating un it: [GRAPHICS] (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd.
