Abstract
The colloidal properties of carbon black feedstock from different orig ins (petroleum and coal) which may directly influence the carbon black quality have been investigated. The effect of feedstock asphaltenes o n their colloidal stability on processing (storage, transportation and treatment) is summarized. A possible relationship between incompatibi lity of feedstock and structuro-mechanical resistance is defined using a stability factor as a consolidated measure of capacity of dispersiv e system. The physical and mechanical effects are found to be pronounc ed at a particular phase change temperature state and leads to deforma tion of the structural system. A correlation between viscous flow acti vation energy and the stability factor is established and the colloida l stability of the system is defined.
