A model for the simulation of the population dynamics of Collembola un
der field conditions is presented. After calibrating the model on past
ure land it was validated on five different agricultural sites grown w
ith sugar beets, cereals and beans. On four of the six sites the simul
ation period was two years, on the remaining two sites three years. A
good agreement between field measurements and simulation results was o
btained. Because the simulation period included the winter time it was
shown that the model is applicable to a broad range of climate condit
ions. This simulation model can be used to analyze the environmental i
mpact (e.g. pesticides, tillage) on the population dynamics of Collemb
ola.
