Va. Markel et al., FLUCTUATIONS OF LIGHT SCATTERED BY FRACTAL CLUSTERS, Journal of the Optical Society of America. A, Optics, image science, and vision., 14(1), 1997, pp. 60-69
Fluctuations in light scattering from a finite ensemble of fractal clu
sters are studied numerically and theoretically is shown that, for a w
ide range of wavelengths and angles, relative fluctuations in the scat
tered intensity are very close to 1 and do not depend on the number of
monomers N in fractal clusters (whereas they are proportional to 1/ro
ot N for trivial clusters). The relations describing fluctuations in t
he light scattering are suggested; they can be used to extract importa
nt information about properties and parameters of fractal pollutants i
n the atmosphere. (C) 1997 Optical Society of America.
