Abstract
The dynamic properties and microscopic material structure of shock loa ded Silicon-Nitride ceramics of two different densities have been inve stigated by means of the planar plate impact and VISAR technique. In a ddition the terminal ballistic behaviour of both ceramics has been det ermined. The combined results of the tests performed suggest an import ant influence of the microstructure on the terminal ballistic behaviou r and thus on the ceramics protection capability against impact proces ses.
