Abstract
It is shown, by the example of carbon steels in different structural s tates, that the ratio of critical crack opening to crack length depend s not only on the structure, but also on strain-hardening parameters. The crack nucleation energy is considered one of the factors causing t he shifting of FATT towards low temperatures on straightening of therm ally hardened rolled products.
