Abstract
Reaction of 2,3-O-isopropylidene-D-glyceraldehyde with dialkyl and dia ryl dithiacetals as well as with their mono-S-oxides, produces 3,4-O-i sopropylidene-D-erythro and D-threo derivatives which were methylated and acetylated to yield 2-O-methyl and 2-O-acetyl derivates. When addu cts of mono-S-oxides were methylated, elimination was observed.
